The basics
11 days, 11 stages and plenty of room to stretch out on the grass and take it all in.
The festival
It would have to be an American festival that takes the whole concept and supersizes it. We’re talking 11 days, 11 stages and over 800 acts that encompass everything from reggae to rock.
Originally aped on the beer festivals of Munich, the lakefront 72 acre site now is a semi permanent festival home that includes four marketplaces, huge covered tents and nearly 50 different food outlets. With each stage comfortably playing to around 6-8000 people - everything about Summerfest is massive.
With relatively inexpensive tickets, the focus for Summerfest is bringing the local and international communities together for a more chilled experience than many other full on festivals allow. It’s more of a huge party in a park than an old school festival. There’s no camping on site but there are plenty of hotel and hostel options nearby and various ticket options allow you to choose how many days you head down there for.
Our tip
Many of the main stages have benches right down the front. Get there early and grab a prime spot.
