Unbeknown to the thousands of boozed Brits that land on Playa de la Americas every summer, Tenerife (or at least the bit away from the strip) is actually a hiker’s paradise. The Spanish island’s El Teide National Park is where NASA sends astronauts to train for landing on Mars, as apparently the terrain is remarkably similar. Extra points if you can hike to the top of Mount Teide, which is the highest mountain in all of Spain.
