Cava is typically regarded as champagne’s cheaper and chavvier cousin, but its star has been rising of late. Copa de Cava, a new bar opening underneath the St Paul’s branch of Camino, is entirely dedicated to the stuff. It’s London’s first cava bar and has around 25 different varieties of the Spanish bubbles. There’s charcuterie platters too.

Take a trip to the canal-side restaurants of Venice right next to Victoria station with the launch of Tozi. Serving up cicchetti – small plates – of everything from bruschetta to wild boar salami, Tozi will give you Cava’s arch nemesis on the side: a cold glass of prosecco.

A Smithfield outpost of Kensington’s Chabrot Bistrot Des Amis has just opened, bringing flavours of the south of France to the City. Expect succulent cuts of beef – it’s going to be good given its Smithfield location – and smooth red wines, all prepared in the open kitchen.
