Do: Wine touring

Cape Town is surrounded by beautiful wine country just an hour’s drive outside of the city. Many wineries offer tours, but your best bet is to join a group for the day and let a (sober) minibus driver guide you around all the different houses in Stellenbosch and Franschoek. Make sure you pair the wine – we recommend the local pinotage – with at least some food, otherwise the journey back into Cape Town could be interesting. stellenboschwinetours.co.za

Move: Table Mountain cable car

You could climb up, but frankly why would you when you can jump in the famous Cape Town cable car to the top of Table Mountain? It takes five minutes, and gracefully winds its way up the 3,500ft towards the iconic flat table top. Word of advice though: if it’s a windy day, steer clear at all costs – it’s a long way down if you get stranded at the top. tablemountain.net

Drink: Long Street

No visitor to the Mother City should escape without doing a bar crawl along Long Street. Start off at the boutique Granddaddy Hotel, where its Sky Bar shares the rooftop with seven Airstream trailers – if you’re lucky you might catch them showing a classic film. Further along, the Dubliner will ruin your ear drums with live covers of classics, Neighbourhood (pictured in gallery above) serves up a good range of local and imported beers, while slightly down-at-heel club Jo’burg stays pumping with hip-hop tunes until the early hours. goodinthehood.co.za
