The welcoming Texan city opens up Zilker Park to big names and emerging acts alike, served up with a big dose of Texan hospitality and friendliness.
The festival
If, as it claims, the Texan city of Austin is the live music capital of the world, its flagship City Limits festival (music and film conference SXSW having become a festival almost by accident) should be one hell of a show.
Held across the city’s 46-acre Zilker Park, ACL offers its supersized vision of the perfect festival, with more than 130 acts, a culinary festival-within-a-festival showcasing the best of Austin food scene (Austin Eats), artisan markets and a dedicated schedule for kids (Austin Kiddie Limits, obviously).
The lineup is as broad as it is big, running the full spectrum from legendary old-timers to up-and-coming acts and obscure names even those particularly well plugged in to the Austin music scene will struggle to recognise. Which is exactly the point – ACL is as big, bold and eclectic as the Texan capital is.
Our tip
It isn’t possible to camp in Zilker Park, but if you’re determined to use al fresco accommodation there’s plenty of camping in the surrounding area. Try McKinney Falls State Park for a unique limestone landscape and easy access to Zilker.

AIR: Fly into Austin–Bergstrom International Airport for the shortest distance to the Zilker Park (18 mins by car). San Antonio International Airport (1hr11mins). George Bush Intercontinental Airport (2hrs46mins). Dalls/Fort Worth International Airport (3hrs14mins).
PARKING: No parking is available at Zilker Park. ACL has provided free shuttles to catch into the festival from downtown instead. Shuttles lead from Republic Square at 10am and their final return from the park is 11pm. Fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and take a shuttle or rental car to your hotel.
