The basics
Achingly hip Autumn festival in Iceland with a lineup that mixes international acts with local talent
The festival
For such a small population, Iceland packs a almighty punch when it comes to music and partying, and nowhere is that the case more than cult autumn icon Airwaves. Setting the musical agenda since 1999, it’s a hedonistic showcase for innovative music from Iceland and beyond.
Seriously cool, but with a healthy sense of fun and friendliness, Airwaves makes the most of Reykjavík’s vibrant (we say crazy) bar scene and Iceland’s otherworldly scenery, though you can’t camp so you’ll need to find your own digs.
Our tip
To revive your spirits (and give your hangover a good soaking) head to the island’s Blue Lagoon geothermal spa and hang out with the beautiful – if slightly worse for wear – people.
