The basics
Heavyweight music and arts festival in scenic Southwold, with a big presence from the worlds of music and comedy.
The festival
Latitude has gained such a foothold in the UK summer festival season that it’s hard to believe it began in 2006. Back then, its combination of indie rock and the arts – comedy, theatre, poetry and literature – struck a chord, and it’s a winning combination that’s grown and prospered ever since.
If that, plus a location in Suffolk’s polished seaside town of Southwold, makes Latitude sound all very middle class, it is, but that doesn’t mean those who go don’t know how to have a good time – in fact, quite the opposite. With so much going on besides the music, it’s nigh on impossible to find festival fatigue setting in, whatever your age.
Though the lineup remains pretty faithful to Latitude’s rock roots, these days it’s an eclectic affair that takes in dance, electronica and experimental music.
Our tip
The comedy tent is incredibly popular and queues stretching out of it are common, so if you don’t want the smile on your face wiped off by staring at someone’s back for a couple of hours, get there as early as you can.
