The basics

An all-day extravaganza of music and art, right at the centre of Melbourne

The festival

When you think about it, a sugar mountain wouldn't last very long, would it? It would dissolve pretty quickly, we reckon. Unless it was in the desert. But then it would probably melt into a dessert. Oh God, sorry, we're rambling, aren't we? We really shouldn't be trusted with keyboards when we get this excited about a festival.

Sugar Mountain is a "summit of music and art", held at and around the Victorian College of Arts. And no, that's not an art school where you have to wear full-length dresses and little lace mittens, and they send you up the chimneys if you're a scholarship kid. It's the college of art for the state of Victoria, as you well know. Stop being trivial.

The event itself is just as awesome as it sounds. It's a mix of exciting art and design with top musical acts from within and outside Oz. Since the stages and spaces are designed by artists, it's visually spectacular as well as containing some absolutely top notch entertainment. You can have a gourmet meal in a specially designed space, with a unique soundtrack to every course at the Sensory experience. Or pop along to the Boiler Room stage, where you can prove you are definitively more on trend than everyone else you know (except the people who came to the Boiler Room stage with you, who are probably about equally on trend).

The Aussie's know all about being cool and chilled at the same time, and we reckon even the balmy summer weather won't do much to undermine that. Bring on Sugar Mountain!

Our tip

Don't let all the blood rush to your head while you're upside down.
