It's a jazz festival. But instead of a creepy downstairs club it's a beautiful Caribbean island!
The festival
Welcome to Jazz club…… niiiice. Want Jazz without the berets, the finger clicking and the weird man with a goatee (more on goats later) in a corner? Well, there might be some finger clicking, perhaps even a few weirdos with goatees; but there shouldn’t be many berets because who can sport a sweaty cotton beret under the gorgeous Caribbean sun? Only a weirdo in a beret. Ah.
Anyway, this April, Jazztafarians, or Jazzphiles (?) from around the world descend on the less celebrated island of the TnT combo for the Tobago Jazz Experience. It’s going to be dynamite.
The festival takes place all over the island so it’s a great chance to see an often overlooked part of the Caribbean (curse those spotlight hogging Trinidadians!) and it’s not just about the music either. There’s food, art and even workshops for the yoof. So, grab your beret and…. wait, wait, I mean grab the suntan lotion and your passport and get your ass to Tobago.
Our tip
Check out the goat racing. Or chasing. It's hard to tell what's going on but from what we can glean from the promotional video, locals chase goats in some sort of organised race. You'd be insane not to. Absolutely insane.

Getting there
How do I get there?
Go to Tobago. It’s an island. In the Caribbean. It’s quite small. Ask for the festival. It’s all over the place. Don’t go to Trinidad, that’s the other one, and they will laugh at you for going to the wrong island. Alternatively, the festival’s offers an array of travel options, including flight and ferry options, in addition to accommodation. British Airways fly there and they could do with the money.
