Here's an idea to try this weekend. Rather than slope off home to watch Netflix non-stop, why not book into a cool London hotel and, er, watch Netflix non-stop there? We've got just the place for that…
Step forward The Hoxton Hotel on Great Eastern Street. After a minor renovation – there's a new bar, the garden got a roof to be used through winter and there's new books in the lobby, result – East London's favourite hipster hangout is all shiny and new again.
This zeitgeisty hotel can't get much better. It's got location covered (slap bang in the midst of buzzy Shoreditch, and minimal stumbling distance from the capital's best bars), it's got design down (the slightly blokeish, clean rooms feature giant mirrors and retro radios) and the food – well, that's a whole other story. Underneath the six floors and 208 rooms, the NYC industrial feel Hoxton Grill does steaks like they're going out of fashion, all to the banging beat of DJs and washed down with one (or more) of their signature cocktails.
The best part of this gig though, is stuffing yourself with steak, sticky ribs and sinking half a bottle of Malbec, only to then totter back up to your room and curl up amid Lichtenstein-inspired pillows and soft throws. Yup, rather than admiring the London skyline from the window, we bedded down with Netflix (24, if you're interested). But rather do it in a sexy hotel room than on your battered sofa, right?
