Bormio is a destination where the mountains are experienced authentically, blending sport, nature, and centuries-old traditions. Its strong winter vocation is rooted in a unique environment, characterised by vertical drops, and an outstanding natural setting.

Over the years, Bormio has become a benchmark for international alpine skiing, having hosted two Alpine World Ski Championships and, for more than 30 years, a historic Men's Downhill World Cup race. Within this context, a long-standing connection with the English Alpine Championships has also developed, with teams regularly choosing these slopes for training and competition.

Pista Stelvio

The resort offers three ski areas with clearly defined identities, designed to meet the needs of every season and every type of skier. Bormio represents elite alpine skiing: the legendary Stelvio slope, with one of the most significant skiable vertical drops in the Alps, is the stage for major events and will take centre stage at the Winter Olympic Games in February 2026, offering a unique technical challenge to the world's top athletes.

Santa Caterina Valfurva, set within the Stelvio National Park, is renowned for its natural snow and pristine environment. It is home to the Deborah Compagnoni slope, named after the local champion, and hosts the Alpine Skiing European Cup each year, welcoming international athletes. Snow conditions here are excellent both at the beginning and the end of the season, making Santa Caterina an ideal destination for high-level training. Cima Piazzi-San Colombano completes the offering as the perfect ski area for families and beginners, with sunny slopes, dedicated services, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Another distinctive feature of the area is the Stelvio Glacier, which in summer offers around 20 kilometres of slopes for training, confirming a year-round sporting vocation.

In addition to alpine skiing, the area offers many other winter sports, including ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, fat biking, and dog sledging, all within the Stelvio National Park. Among the highlights are the thermal facilities: Bormio Terme, ideal for athletes' recovery and also perfect for families, and QC Terme Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi, designed for a day of relaxation immersed in nature.

Completing the experience is the local food and wine tradition, an authentic expression of mountain culture: from pizzoccheri and sciatt to IGP-certified bresaola and local cheese, as well as Valtellina wines and Amaro Braulio, all telling the story of the region through intense flavours and time-honoured traditions.
