Mexico’s where it’s at for avant garde art, music and a view of the future.
You’ve got Sonar in Barcelona promoting digital and electronic music of a European persuasion and Mutek does a very similar line in high-end intelligent installments. This year it heads to Mexico to bring the city the very latest light and sound technology and performances from over 100 Canadian, Mexican and international artists.
It manages to weave a canvas from the different strands of electronica, AV, sound exploration and a futuristic look at where the digital and creative arts are going. The fact that this is now the 12th Mexican outing for Montreal-based Mutek shows the passion for these kind of events down Mexico way, where even young kids queue for pretty obscure musical acts.
Tickets can be bought per gig or for the whole festival, and as it’s a city wide event there’s no camping - accommodation is down to you but there’s a whole range of options open to differing budgets.
Mexico City is enormous and the venues are pretty spread out, so take your time and relax into the local way of life.
