Fun and frolics in snowy Utrecht
For one day in January, the Utrecht city park 'Park Transwijk' is transformed into a snowy, dancey paradise. Fun, fancy dress is encouraged, though warmth is key, so remember to wear your long johns underneath your Bowser costume.
Whether you're a big dance fan or just want to have a bit of festival action in the depths of winter, Sneeuwbal is a good way of enjoying one of Europe's most underrated cities while having a ball. A snow ball.
Not only is it a great festival, but the webpage also provides useful links to accommodation packages, meaning you won't find yourself stranded in the Utrecht winter nighttime wearing nothing but a Princess Peach mask and boxer shorts like that time we went out in Aberdeen. A dark evening. Enjoy!
If you're going to throw snowballs at strangers, make sure they are small and vulnerable because they are both less likely to fight back and have no legal recourse.
How do I get there?
It is not possible to park on the festival grounds. The nearest parking is Transferium Westraven. From here you can get the tram (every 10 minutes) and get off at the stop Vasco da Gama Avenue. For € 5.00 you buy a combined ticket attached the machine to 'park and trips (including tram). You can pay with PIN, chip or credit card (MasterCard / Maestro).
From Utrecht CS travel to Croeselaan Drive and turn right at the end. At Bailiwick bike over the bridge and at the roundabout turn left onto Europalaan. The gate to the park is on the right. Please note that this is the only festival entrance! Place your bike here at the onsite bicycle spot.
Transwijk park can be reached from Central Station by tram to IJsselstein and Nieuwegein. Get off at the stop Vasco da Gama Avenue and walk from here so to Park Transwijk. The tramline also runs too late to return to Utrecht Central Station. For the exact times www.9292ov.nl
Phase 4 Tickets are the only ones left and are priced at €32.50
