You know how it goes – you read a book by a world-renowned explorer, hop on a boat, head south, and catapult yourself to photographic fame. Not likely for most of us, but for Enzo Barracco, that's pretty much the way it goes.

Inspired by the adventures of Ernest Shackleton, the Italian photographer gave up fashion photography for the chance to explore the iciest reaches of the planet. The results are the cool shots in the gallery above, which showcase the everchanging landscapes of the frozen continent.

Enzo Barracco's book Antarctica: The Noise of the Ice, with a foreword by world-renowned explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, is available now for £30
