If you're often found aiming your iPhone at the night sky (we're guilty), then check out the images above.

They're some of the shortlisted images for this year's Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2014, and show stunning night sky images from star trails over the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland to a meteor passing over Indonesia's Mount Bromo.

The winning images will be announced on 17 September, and exhibited in Greenwich's Royal Observatory until February next year.
