You might not know it, but you’ve been to Utah before. You’ve clung to the walls of a slot canyon with James Franco in 127 Hours. You’ve ridden shotgun with Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis through the rust-red curves of Thelma & Louise. You’ve run with Forrest Gump along Highway 163 in Monument Valley, or, at the very least, sat on the sofa and said: “God, I’d love to go there.”
Well, now’s your chance. For over a century, Utah has been Hollywood’s go-to location for scenes that demand drama – natural or otherwise. Think impossibly vast skies, orange-scorched deserts, candy-striped canyons and alpine peaks. And yet, somehow, not a single Starbucks ruining the shot.

Bonneville Salt Flats
From silent-era Westerns to Will Smith in Independence Day, the state’s landscapes have played a starring role in over 1,300 films and TV shows. To celebrate 100 years of movie-making, Utah has launched the Film Trail – a new way to explore the state through its most iconic filming locations, starting in the cinematic south.
Here, you’ll find the legendary Mighty 5® national parks: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches. Between them they’ve hosted everyone from Indiana Jones to Zac Efron (but don’t hold that against them). Visit Kanab – nicknamed Little Hollywood – where John Wayne slept at Parry Lodge and Clint Eastwood allegedly complained about the coffee (we assure you there are great coffee options in town now). In town, you’ll find the Little Hollywood Museum and the Kanab Movie Fort, where you can toast s’mores around a campfire and squint into the stars like you’re in your own Western.
In the north, Salt Lake City brings blockbuster energy, with sets from Dumb and Dumber, Con Air and High School Musical (1, 2 and 3, no less). Don’t miss the Bonneville Salt Flats, either – so stark and surreal they’ve hosted everything from Pirates of the Caribbean to The World’s Fastest Indian.

Arches National Park
Whether you're into gritty indie thrillers or family-friendly classics, Utah’s landscapes are the real A-listers. All that’s missing is you.
