The basics

Take your pick from a number of different venues, all plonked nicely on the beach for your pleasure. Viva Mexico!

The festival

Head down to Playa del Carmen this January if you fancy losing it by the beach instead of standing at a bus stop freezing your butthole off. BPM Festival is the perfect antidote for any frozen-exit related rpoblems, because it's sunny, it's on the beach, it's ten days long and it's full of amazing DJs. What more could you want?

Not much, we hope, you spoiled brat.

Although, if you are a spoiled brat, then this is the perfect one for you, because it's quite expensive. Still, it's worth the money – there's not many other festivals like BPM.

Our tip

They're not official, but there are a number of outside raves held nearby, including in 2014, one held in ancient Mayan ruins. Ask around for info. IT'S LIKE BEING A REAL-LIFE DETECTIVE!

Getting there

How do I get there?

Cancún International Airport is the closest airport to Playa del Carmen. From there, travel can be made via bus, shuttle, private transfer, or car.

PRIVATE TRANSFERS

Booking a car in advance is a great way to get to town, especially if you value your own space and have some extra cash to spare. With the option to book online in advance for the best rates, you can compare and contrast your options. Once you land, a representative will greet passengers with a sign with your name. Check the directory for listings of well-known companies that do daily travel to Playa.

CAR RENTALS

Renting a car is common practice amongst BPM-goers, especially for those who want to explore external sites, or enjoy post-festival relaxation in Tulum. Rental cars may be reserved in advance or upon arrival.

ADO BUSES

There are public busesoffering non-stop service from the Cancún airport at scheduled times enterng downtown Playa on Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue) and Avenida Juarez. Buses eave from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, taking approximately 65 minutes, and cost 106 pesos (£5) per passenger. Tickets may be purchased from a booth inside the terminal or right at the door. Only speak with employees wearing an Ado logo on their shirt to avoid possible scams.
