The basics
Eins, zwei, drei, it's festival time!
The festival
Beer? Heavy rock? A man in a giant gorilla costume? If these are things which sound good to you (and they should do), then Nova Rock is for you. A heavy rock festival a short trip away from Vienna, Nova Rock combines awesome beer with awesome tunes. Visitors have a chance to see the ancient (or at least very old) art of beer making, before drinking heaps of the lovely stuff and watching local stars and international heavyweights rock their not so little socks off. With a new location, the festival has expanded to meet demand and promises to be one hell of a showcase for rock fans from all over the world. Wunderbar!
Our tip
Try the Ottakringer Helles beer, made from hops, water and malt, nothing else. They've been sticking strictly to the purity law of 1516 (which is about beer, not virginity) and it's worked an absolute treat.

Getting there
How do I get there?
Train
From Vienna (Westbahnhof and Hutteldorf), you can either catch the The NOVAROCK, which is a special train that is direct and without any stops in between.
The trains leave Vienna at 9:04 from Vienna Hütteldorf and 10:04 every hour from Vienna Westbahnhof to Nickelsdorf. If you are coming from the South, you should take the U-Bahn (U6) from Vienna Meidling to the Westbahnhof. In order to get to Hütteldorf from Vienna Meidling you can jump on a direct S-Bahn, or with the U-Bahn U6/U4 (change at Längenfeldgasse).
Also available are the OBB Special trains. Nova Rock recommends rockers take the special OBB trains because that way they can rock out with other festival goers. Book early though, tickets sell out fast. With the regular and scheduled trains there are only limited seats available. OBB tickets are available at ticket dispensers as well as the OBB desks, online or via the app.
Bus
There are direct bus transfers from Vienna to the festival site. Buses depart from Vienna (Busterminal Erdberg – U3 Station Erdberg), heading straight to Nova Rock. More details on Burgenland shuttles can be found here.
You can also get to the Festival from the Nickelsdorf train station by taxi. Pay attention to the clearly indicated official Nova Rock Taxis, which offer a €15 fare.
Car
The festival site is situated in the village of Nickelsdorf in Burgenland and can be accessed directly through the eastbound motorway A4. The nearest exit is Nickelsdorf, which is just before the border crossing at Nickelsdorf and gives you almost direct access onto the festival site. During peak arrival times there is also the possibility to access the festival through the exit at Mönchhof. Please pay attention to the signposts.
