Inspiration

America hasn't always been as glamorous as New York or the Las Vegas strip.

From the Rockies to the Grand Canyon, these pictures – some of the first colour photographs of the New World – show America and its people in its diverse glory, as it was more than a century ago.

The collection of postcards and photocroms was produced by the Detroit Photographic Company between 1888 and 1924, and now they've been bound into a TASCHEN book.
