Like an American faded film star from the 80s hoping to live off their former glory years in the comfort and shelter of South America, the Sheraton Hotel, Iguazu Falls trades on its reputation – not to mention its location as the only hotel in the Argentinian side of the national park.

It could be blamed for being a bit too touristy and not very Argentinian – but then wait: when a hotel has one of the best addresses in the world, who cares if its bland 80s decor leaves the hotel a little on the soulless side? Not the Sheraton – it makes no apologies for its average ambience and lack of interior design nous. It knows guests keep coming anyway, and here's why:

1) You cannot beat its location. While non-hotel guests have to queue up at the tourist centre and buy park passes, hotel guests have that all sorted before check-in. We stroll from swimming pool to the Falls and back again.

2) It's got amazing views. Imagine eating breakfast or sipping an early evening cocktail while the rushing sound of water fills your ears and the sight of white spray and rainbow-filled skies is your constant view – glorious.

3) It's got more than just a great location. Its sky-blue swimming pool is a beaut, and its spa has also been the attention of rave reviews, but the facilities were a little average on our visit.

Sold? We were – no wonder this hotel’s reputation keeps preceding itself.
