The basics

The legendary blues and roots festival, held on a tea tree farm within spitting distance of Byron Bay, has been around the block but keeps getting better.

The festival

After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2014, it’s onwards and upwards for the legendary celebration of blues and roots, held just down the road from beautiful Byron Bay. Having moved from one location to another each year, the Bluesfest finally found a permanent home – at Tyagarah Tea Tree farm – in 2010 and the 120-hectare site has proved a hit with the festival’s devotees.

As befits its legendary status, Bluesfest pulls in stars – not just from blues and roots, but from rock, jazz, soul and alt-folk too. The 2014 lineup included Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Michael Franti and Erykah Badu along with countless other acts, big and small, old and new. Expect more of the same in 2015.

Our tip

Keep an eye out for koalas, which live on the site year round (they’re not just blues fans). There’s an onsite ecologist present throughout the festival to provide assistance in case you happen to bump into a bear.
