The festival
Picture the scene: it's summer time on Donauinsel, a beautiful urban oasis in the Danube river in Vienna, the historic centre of Viennese Classicism. But forget the State Opera and the Hofburg Palace, it's not Renaissance architecture that brought you here, it's pure unadulterated rock.
And pure unadulterated rock you shall have my friends! If this festival has anything to do with it. Following on from the success of Donauinselfest, Rock in Vienna aims to bring real crowd-pleasing bands to tens of thousands of rock fans over multiple open-air stages.
Our tip
The campsite on Donauinsel, known as a 'recreational paradise', has a private beach area, but wander too far and you might end up on the nudist beach. So don't say we didn't warn you. Unless you came for *ock in Vienna, in which case, as you were.
