How do you pronounce Bogota? Is it Bo-ga-ta or Bow-go-tah like the Americans pronounce it? Only God knows. Actually no, it's the first way. More importantly, the Colombian capital is also home to Sonar Bogota, an extension of Spain's most wonderful dance festival. Muchos Buenos and all that.
Unlike the UK, it's not absolutely freezing in December there, which is good. With a host of top electro and dance talent, you'd be silly not to go if you're in Colombia. You'd be silly not to go even if you aren't. Have a look at the flights NOW. So what if Christmas is coming up? Mum and co will definitely understand your reasons once they check out the website. They might even come along. Though that'd be weird and awkward.
Our tip
La Candelaria is one of Bogota's most interesting historic sights and has absolutely nothing to do with the wonderful Michael Douglas/Matt Damon film Behind the Candelabra, despite sounding vaguely similar.
