The basics

This three dayer has plenty to offer a far flung festival goer, with a world class line up and plenty of offbeat areas to get lost in.

The festival

How do you make one of Australia’s most beautiful spots (Byron Bay) even more attractive? Add in a kooky, vintage inspired festival. Tipis and flags ripple in the wind in every direction, hippy kids and hipsters chill out on the grass and veggie food means more than just a sad falafel here.

Outside of the main stages, there’s also a tipi forest complete with bare earth dancefloor, a global village which is home to everything from chanting monks, live art classes to the odd spot off fireside drumming. There’s the Very Small Mall for boutique things to buy (if you’ve any booze money left over), discussions and debates will unfurl at the Splendour Forum, Red Bull will host up and coming local talent or relax with a cocktail at the Smirnoff Cocktail Bar. There’s regular camping or you can book into Flash Camp, a tent hotel complete with soft bedding, towels and hot water.

Our tip

Can’t be bothered to organise everything? Contiki will put a package together that includes ticket, transport from anywhere in Oz, plus glamping or hotel accommodation and a tour manager.

Getting there

How do I get there?

It's located about 9km north of Brunswick Heads, 25km north of the Byron Bay CBD or 40km south of Tweed Heads. It is on the Tweed Valley Way about 1.3km north of the Yelgun interchange off the Pacific Highway.

Buses will run to and from surrounding locations.

Travelling by Air: Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is the closest to Byron Bay, about 25mins and is about 40minutes south of the event venue. Ballina Byron Gateway offers up to 58 direct flights per week on Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Rex and is a proud sponsor of Splendour in the Grass.

Shuttles also operate from Gold Coast Airport and Brisbane Airport.

Travelling by Car: In order to minimise the number of private vehicles travelling to and from the festival, we need to encourage car-pooling as much as possible. As one of the ways to encourage ride-sharing, we will be requiring all vehicles entering the site to carry a pre-purchased Campers Carpark Pass, RV Park Pass, Day Parking Pass. The number of vehicle passes available each day will be capped.

CarShare: Checkout JayRide

Travelling by Bike: Those of you riding pushbikes to the festival can leave them at the bike “corral” off the main pedestrian entry. Do not just leave bikes up against fences or in pedestrian walkways, they will be removed.
