In the heart of South Africa's Eastern Cape lies many things: a town called East London, among other things. Oh, and a crash of black and white rhinos.
At the Kwandwe Game Reserve north of Port Elizabeth is the Rhino Conservation Safari, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to teach visitors about the protection of the rhino – a member of the big five.
The safari is all about getting up close and personal to the giant beasts, and on the safari, visitors take measurements and DNA samples of the rhinos (which are sedated, obviously). There's also the opportunity to drill the rhino horn, made famous by poachers.
Plus, the 54,000-acre game reserve boasts lion, cheetah, elephant and buffalo as well as the rhino – so plenty of safari-ing to be done...
