Do: Buenos Aires Tango Festival, 13-26 August
Drag your red lacy dress/frilly shirt (delete as appropriate) out of the cupboard and get your sexiest game face on – it's the annual tango festival in Buenos Aires. For two weeks each year, the Argentinian capital goes tango crazy with exhibitions, public dance-offs and tango classes for the uninitiated. Apparently it still takes two to tango, so make sure you bring your mates along.
Stay: Pop Hotel
This budget boutique bolthole is a cross between a hotel and hostel. It's super colourful, and the decor is an eye-watering mix of pop art, block colours and speech bubbles. Rooms are cosy, with iPod docking stations and free wifi throughout. It's a good place to meet fellow tango-ers, and being in a trendy part of town – Villa Crespo – does it plenty of favours, too.
Eat: Steak (lots of it)
As the old adage goes, when in Buenos Aires, eat as much steak and drink as much malbec as you possibly can*. It's not just urban myth, honestly – the city is stuffed with parillas (steakhouses) to live the good life in. There are hundreds to choose from, but La Cabrera in the trendy district of Palermo is a top choice, as is Don Julio in the same neighbourhood. Just make sure you've stocked up on the Gaviscon first. *not really, we made that up.
