Architecture, history, tradition – bored yet? Don't be. Cambridge is the don of university towns , with pretty cobbled passageways, hardcore students lugging around books and cyclists cruising around every corner. If you like your food, culture and good times, it's your perfect UK city break.
PUNT: LET'S GO PUNTING
Going to Cambridge and not taking a punting trip is like going to a theme park, queuing for the rides, and not going on them. That's just weird! There are more punts on the river Cam then any other in England, so clamber into your wooden boat and zigzag erratically across the water. If that sounds a bit tame, some punting companies offer wine-punting tours, so you can get merry on plonk while negotiating the bridges and banks. Sounds great (until you fall in). From £12. letsgopunting.co.uk
EAT: EAT CAMBRIDGE, 9-20 MAY
Cambridge is having its culinary heyday at the moment, from Michelin stars to burger joints. To really get involved, head to Eat Cambridge, which showcases the area's indie food offerings in a two week-long celebration. This year there are talks from leading figures in the Cambridge food scene (photographers, chefs, cheese-makers), but we're all about the eating – see you at the 'Sizzling Sunday' sausage fest. eat-cambridge.co.uk
STAY: HOTEL FELIX
Decent accommodation in Cambridge is a bit hard to come by, if you don't have us to help that is. There's the Travelodge, if you like your views to be of railway tracks, or for something much softer on the eye, try Hotel Felix. The boutique hotel is a short walk from town and comes with a pretty garden, huge bedrooms (and beds) and full-on English breakfasts in the morning. It's pet friendly, too, so expect to eat your bacon and eggs alongside some mighty fine dogs. From £215 B&B. hotelfelix.co.uk
