DO: Way Out West, 7-9 August
Day festivals are a big deal – London's got enough of them, after all – and seeing as the Swedes do everything more glamorously than us, head to Swedish second city Gothenburg for Way Out West (£160). It's a small, eclectic affair that takes place in the city itself, with top-notch food on site. Oh, and did we mention that Outkast, Röyksopp and Robyn are headlining this year? festivalbaby.com/festivals/way-out-west/
Clarion Hotel Post, Drottningtorget 10. Rooms from around £120pn
Nordic cool doesn't come, er, cooler than at the Clarion Hotel Post. Set in a grand old post office building in the centre of the city, it's got a top-notch Swedish/US fusion restaurant (we're not entirely sure either), but its main selling point is a rooftop pool and sun terrace. Yes, as it's Sweden you can probably only use it for maybe two days a year, but still – we want in.
Hotel Pigalle, Sodra Hamngatan 24
So shiny and new not many people know about it yet, the new roof terrace at boutique hotel Pigalle is a seriously hot place to spend a very light (we're into long, sunny days now in Scandinavia) night recovering from Way Out West. You might need to wrap up in several blankets, sure – but try it before the trendy Gothenburg crew sees what all the fuss is about.
