Oasis, Coronation Street, the Warehouse Project – these must be the reasons the New York Times has earmarked Manchester as a destination to visit in 2015. Oh wait, there's more! Manc is on the up, and we've got it covered.
HOME, MAY 2015
Manchester's arts scene will be getting a nice boost this Spring with the opening of HOME – a £25m complex of art galleries, theatres and cinema screens. The Manchester International Festival also returns in July with a series of events – check out Wonder.land, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired musical with tunes by Damon Albarn (don't let that put you off, Oasis fans). homemcr.org
HOTEL FOOTBALL, SIR MATT BUSBY WAY
There's a prerequisite to staying in this new hotel in Manchester – you need to be able to cope with a load of United fans. If the prospect of that isn't too distressing, then you might like this new opening from newbie hoteliers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. It's located next to the Theatre of Dreams (that's Old Trafford), and comes with a five-a-side football pitch on the roof, unlimited Sky Sports (passion killer?) and sheets embroidered with catchphrases such as 'dreaming of victory'. Dream on, United! hotelfootball.com
HAWKSMOOR, 184 DEANSGATE
Mancunians know how to eat. In leafy Chorlton, local boozer The Parlour serves award-winning grub including scotch eggs, pies, Cheshire brisket and mammoth roasts. There's more to come: top dollar steaks will soon be arriving with the opening of the suave and sophisticated Hawksmoor. Or, if you prefer it dirty, Filthy Cow is a new opening designed to indulge your (meat) fantasies with greasy, ‘well-hung’ burgers. Just how we like them. thehawksmoor.com
