Fancy something that will raise your heart rate? Lace up your trainers and head to Formentera on 5 October to participate in the very first 15km sunset run. Alongside releasing a bucketload of endorphins, it's an opportunity to revel in the island's beauty and tranquillity during dusk. 15 km sounds like too much of a slog? No worries. There's a 5km race happening at the same time as the 15km for runners looking for a gentler ride. Jog on.

Formentera Jazz Festival
La Mola lighthouse
Launched in 2015, the Formentera Jazz Festival celebrates local, national and international artists in a four-day festival full of silky sax and dulcet double base. So head down from 6-9 June and soak up the music and experiences taking place at various venues dotted around the island including Francisco Square, Chezz Gerdi, Es Pujols, Es Pujols Beach and Pelayo, and Es Mal Pas, Migjorn.

Formentera Marnaton
Playa de Ses Illetes
Swap your Sauconys for swimmers and get your goggles on for the Formentera Marnaton on 4 May. Taking place in Formentera's crystal clear waters, swimmers can choose between distances of 8km, 4.5km, and 2km, all setting off from the Poniente side of Ses Illetes. Once you finish the race, you'll be whisked into an awards ceremony followed by a sweaty yoga session to stretch those weary limbs.

Flower Power
Mercado Artesanal de la Mola
In a nod to the island's hippie past, Flower Power fiestas take place across the island and are an opportunity to flaunt your best 60s, 70s, and 80s colourful clobber. Key areas of the fiestas include the squares of La Mola and Sant Francesc and the beach of Es Pujols, which are transformed into an open-air dance floor with music from the best decades. Time to dust off those flares.

Formentera half marathon
Run in the Formentera Half Marathon
For those looking to cover more ground than the 15km race, the Formentera half marathon is your plan of attack. Starting at La Mola lighthouse atop a 120m cliff, the route snakes through the island, finishing in the large Marina de Savina. The course gives intermediate to expert runners the opportunity to run across the entire island and revel in its beauty.
