The basics

The biggest electronic music festival in Berlin, held in Germany's largest abandoned airport.

The festival

While the Tempelhof Airport might not have the brightest history, with it being the jewel in World War II Germany’s public transport crown, it certainly isn’t quite as dark nowadays. The now abandoned airport is home to one of Europe’s biggest and most unusual electronic festivals – the Berlin Festival.

In true Berlin style, the event is a gathering of some of the biggest names in techno, house and electro. With an unusual backdrop in the form of an airport waiting lounge, baggage carousel and runway, the festival is one for house-heads and festival lovers alike.

With the likes of Sven Vath, Jimmy Edgar and Hudson Mohawke all hitting the wheels of steel in 2014, it was a big one. There’s even a roaming disco bus to ensure you’re never without a dancefloor, so just make sure you don’t forget your passport.

Our tip

If you aren’t all clubbed out by the time the festival finishes then Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain are only a short metro ride away, where you will find a sea of big name club nights spinning tunes all night long. We recommend checking out Watergate (keep an eye out for sunrise, probably the best view in all of Berlin), Suicide Circus (not quite as scary as it sounds) and Berghain (for those who can pass their strict door policy).
