Rhythm and Vines
Dec 2019
The basics
Celebrate your New Year's Eve in style
The festival
New Zealand's North Island hosts the famous Rhythm and Vines festival so you can bring in the New Year in style. Set on a vineyard (Vines, get it?) in the rolling hills of Waimata Valley it may well just be the best New Year's you've had.
Internationally-acclaimed talent in electronic and (indie) rock, plus some other genres, will have you dancing your way out of the year. As a home-grown festival that started back in 2003 when a group of friends tried to figure out how to spend their last NYE of University (the vineyard belongs to one of their families), this is something special. Camp on-site amongst those leafy vines to join the 24 hour party – we especially like Base Camp with its swimming pools and beach volleyball.
Our tip
Stay up for the NYE sunrise - you'd be mad not to.

Getting there
How do I get there?
By Air
Rhythm and Vines is held in Gisborne, on the East Coast of New Zealand. Air New Zealand has five flights a day (3 from Auckland, 2 from Wellington). The Gisborne airport is handily located right in the middle of the Gisborne township.
By Car
Gisborne is 6.5 hours drive from Auckland or Wellington. Some beautiful driving is to be had, especially if you head up and around the East Cape. Once in Gisborne, the festival is held on the beautiful Waiohika Estate, about 15 minutues out of Gisborne. The roads to R&V are well marked. Head out Back Ormond Road, just past Waimata Valley Road heading north. There will be plenty of signage along the way. Festival-goers are encouraged to carpool to save the environment and decrease traffic. If you dress up your car you could even win a prize!
Bus
InterCity is running an affordable special service right to the entry of Rhythm & Vines. Meet new friends and avoid the stress of having to drive after a week of shenanigans. Have a look at their website for more information.
