adidas TERREX Free Hiker boot: What is it?
A slimline new offering from adidas that toes the line between hiking boot, trail-running shoe and casual trainer-boot – and when we say slimline, we mean it: each shoe weighs in at a mere 385g. The last few years have seen plenty of outdoor and activewear brands turn their attention to shoes that'll suit you from city to trail, yet despite the noise, the Free Hiker really stands out. Top-level traction from the Continental-designed outsoles power you through wet, slippery conditions, as does the water-resistant Primeknit material the shoe is made of – once you get past the slightly uncanny feeling of cold water hitting your foot and not soaking through.
adidas TERREX Free Hiker boot: Why do I need it?
For starters, the stretchy Primeknit material that the bulk of the shoe is made of is suitably lightweight and breathable for all kinds of summer adventures, while the inbuilt ankle padding and sock-like fit of the shoe gives you a little extra support on longer walks and hikes. Picking up on the great popularity of the adidas Ultraboost running shoe, the all-new TERREX take on the Boost sole gives each step a good amount of bounce without compromising sensitivity under your foot on the trail. Together, this means the Free Hiker is a suitable pair of shoes for everything from moderately technical hikes and low-grade scrambles to long club nights back in the city.
adidas TERREX Free Hiker boot: Should I buy it?
If you're looking for a does-all shoe that you can wear for everything on the agenda, yes. The near-£170 price tag might seem a little steep, but when compared with the price you'd pay for a pair of city shoes, and then some high-performing hiking boots, you're probably not going to be out of pocket. Plus, you can't wear those hiking boots to the local Saino's, either.
The adidas TERREX Free Hiker boot is available now for £169.95. adidas.co.uk
