The basics
High-end electronic music fest that pushes the boundaries in sound, lighting and experiences, with Barcelona as your backdrop.
The festival
Barcelona’s beautiful people come together for one of the electronic music world’s most avant-garde and cultural festivals.
Expect heavy hitters like James Murphy or Richie Hawtin playing in jaw-drapping spaces, with the day and night programmes sitting in different spaces. With artists at the cutting edge of the technological world, Sonar plays host to immersive experiences that just don’t happen anywhere else. For example, in 2014 US DJ Matthew Dear presented a powerful techno show with a mechanism that responded to live audio impulses and a 24 hour music hackathon which brought together the world’s best developers and designers to devise the latest ideas in music technology. There was also a real focus on Nordic artists after the success of offshoot Sonar in Stockholm and Reykjavik.
If it’s electronic, experimental and exciting, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be at Sonar.
Our tip
Barcelona books up early in the summer, so book accommodation as early as you can.
