High fashion and high quality lineups come together in the California desert, in one of the festival season’s most talked-about weekends. Or, strictly speaking, two weekends - these days Coachella effectively takes place twice on consecutive weekends.
The festival
With all the talk of who went, who wore what, and who looked more beautiful than whom, it’s actually quite easy to forget that Coachella is a music festival – and a damned good one at that. Admittedly, there are elements that are more fashion show than festival, but they don’t dominate things quite so much as the gossip pages might suggest.
What the two-weekend festival does, is provide the unbeatable combination of sun, a diverse and up-for-it crowd and artists from across the musical spectrum – 2014's acts ranged from Queens of the Stone Age, Arcade Fire and Motörhead to Disclosure and Pharrell Williams.
There’s also a big focus on food, with pop-ups from top SoCal restaurants and and eclectic rabble of food trucks, and plenty of opportunities to buy the sort of boutique and vintage clothes that might land you a starring spot on the fashion blogs. If you’re young, beautiful and famous enough, obviously.
